For 16 years Apple told us touchscreen laptops were a bad idea. Then, on 29 October 2026, it launched one.

The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display comes in 14- and 16-inch sizes. It pairs a tandem OLED panel with touch built directly into the display, adds the Dynamic Island to the Mac, and runs the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as before. Pre-orders opened on 29 October at apple.com/au, and the first machines arrive on Friday 6 November.

Australian pricing starts at A$4,599 for the 14-inch M5 Pro and climbs fast from there. More on the money, and how it stacks up against Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop Ultra, further down.

Apple chief hardware officer, Johny Srouji, who was promoted into the role in April, put his name to the launch.

« The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac, » Srouji said. « PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display. It pairs state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology with advanced algorithms in our display engine to deliver the kind of visual fidelity pros have been dreaming of.
