ChatGPT developer OpenAI has confirmed that a third-party security incident on March 31 has prompted the revocation and rotation of its macOS security certificates, meaning all Mac users must now update their apps.

The incident involved the third-party Axios JavaScript developer library used by OpenAI and is understood to be linked to North Korean threat actors. Malicious Axios updates for versions v1.14.1 and v0.30.4 were pushed out, which included a remote access trojan malware. “The malicious versions were live for about 3 hours before being removed,” according to GitHub user @jasonsaayman whose compromised account was used in the process.

OpenAI has issued a statement confirming that it “found no evidence that OpenAI user data was accessed, that our systems or intellectual property was compromised, or that our software was altered.”
